Taxis are readily available outside the arrival terminal at the airport and the journey from the airport to the hotel should take about 15 minutes. Alternatively there is a shuttle bus service. The Vola in Bus runs regularly every 30 minutes from the airport to the central train station. Tickets must be purchased on the bus. The bus stops running at 23:30.
By Air (from Galileo Galilei International Airport in Pisa):
The hotel is approximately 80 km from Galileo Galilei International Airport in Pisa. On the left-hand side of the terminal, there is a train station and trains run regularly from here to Florence’s central station and Pisa station. There are 8 direct trains from the airport to Florence every day. All the other trains stop at Pisa’s central train station and you have to change train to get to Florence Santa Maria Novella central train station. Tickets are available at the airport train counter located near the platform inside the terminal. Alternatively the Terravision shuttle bus runs regularly between the airport and Florence central train station. The counter is right outside the arrival gate (after the baggage claim area).
By Train:
The hotel is just 900 metres away from Florence central train station (known as Santa Maria Novella or S.M.N.). Taxis are available from just outside the station.
If you prefer to walk, exiting the station from the left-hand side, you will find an escalator leading to an underground shopping street. Go straight ahead and walk the length of the shopping area until you reach a set of stairs straight in front of you. If you climb the stairs you will find yourself in Via Panzani. Keep going straight on and Via Panzani will become Via de' Cerretani and eventually, around 700 metres ahead, you will see the Duomo and Battistero. Walk in front of the Duomo Cathedral looking at the entry gates. On the right-hand side, you will see a crowded street, that is Via Calzaiuoli. Hotel Axial is on the right-hand side a few metres ahead.
You can also take the bus from the station to the hotel. Outside the Central Station (by the exit on the right-hand side), there are two buses, the N23 and N14, which stop just in front of the Duomo, from where you can easily see Via Calzaiuoli. The Duomo stop is the second stop after the Station. Tickets can be bought at the newsagents, bars and on board, but in the latter case there is a surcharge on the ticket.
By Car (from the A1 motorway from Milan or Rome):
- Take the Firenze Certosa exit, signposted Uscita Firenze Certosa.
- You will first pass the Firenze-Nord exit (if you are travelling from Milan/Bologna) or the Firenze-Sud exit (if you are travelling from Rome). You will then find the exit you need to take, the Firenze-Certosa exit.
- When you arrive at the roundabout, go almost all the way around and come off the roundabout following the signs for Centro (town centre).
- Drive up the hill. On your left you will see Florence’s abbey, the Certosa.
- Drive through a village called Galluzzo, keep on driving for another kilometre through an alley with lots of petrol stations.
- Turn right at the traffic lights.
- The road goes up the hill; at the second set of traffic lights turn left into Via Poggio Imperiale, then drive down to Piazza di Porta Romana.
- Pass under the arch of the medieval city walls (there is a camera), you have just entered the Via Romana.
- Follow the road straight, into Via Maggio, pass over the Santa Trinita Bridge, keep driving straight on ahead down Via Tornabuoni. You will now be driving into Florence’s city centre.
- Go past the traffic lights and then make a right turn at the second little street on your right-hand side - just after the bus stop.
- Then drive on the right-hand side of the newsstand – this is a very narrow street called Via degli Agli.
- At the stop sign, go straight ahead and enter the pedestrian zone in Via dei Pecori – drive slowly, so that you can see the Duomo in front of you.
- Turn right into the second street on your right (Via Roma).
- Keep driving straight ahead, take the second turning on the left into Via degli Speziali, then again take second left.
- You are now on Via dei Calzaiuoli. Get close to the left-hand side of the street and just stop your car by the door at the entrance of the hotel, this is an old wooden door at number 11, immediately after the Disney shop.
- Ring the bell, push the door and unload your luggage inside the door. Lock your car and come to the reception via the elevator, the staff at reception will then call the garage for you.
