No impressive entrance and no red carpet. The simple front of the "Oude Houtlei" reveals no signs of the old, modest convent: PoortAckere. "An island, lost in the whirlpool of a tumultuous city".
Monasterium PoortAckere has two types of accommodation: hotel rooms with three star facilities in "De Maagdenvleugel", "Het Breedhuis" and "Het huis van de Rector". These rooms will be booked on this site.
The guest house rooms you will find under Guesthouse PoortAckere (one star accommodation). Coming from Calais – Oostende – Brugge (E40)
Take the exit Gent West (N° 13) and follow the indications ‘Gent Centrum’. You will arrive in the Hoogstraat. Take the last street on your right, which is the ‘Oude Houtlei’. PoortAckere Monasterium is situated halfway on your right.
Coming from Brussels (E40) or Antwerpen (E17)
Follow the yellow indications "parkeerroute Gravensteen/Sint-Michiels"
Take the exit ‘Gent Centrum’ and you will arrive at a crossing. Continue straight ahead and you will enter in the ‘Zuidparklaan’. At the end, go right (Zuidstationstraat). Continue straight ahead as long as possible (Keizer Karelstraat – Sint-Jacobs Nieuwstraat – Ottogracht). On the crossing at the end, take left (‘Grauwpoort’ – Lange Steenstraat). Continue (the street turns to the left) and take right at the end. You will arrive in the ‘Burgstraat’, which you follow until the end and there you take left (=Peperstraat). When you arrive at the crossing go left again. This is the ‘Hoogstraat’. Take the last street on your right which is ‘Oude Houtlei’,
PoortAckere Monasterium is situated halfway on your right.
