The Old Mill Hotel in Motherwell is situated on the banks of the River Calder at the end of Mill Road, only half a mile from the town centre. The building dates back to the 16th century and the hotel have made a feature of the original mill machinery, which is displayed behind glass panels, telling the 500 year history of the mill in the new public bar. Adding to the atmosphere is the genuine waterwheel that was originally used to power the grain mill using the force of the River Calder as it came over the waterfall.From the M74 off at junction 6 for Motherwell & Hamilton, stay left for Motherwell, come off slip road go straight through traffic lights up the hill. Drive all the way to the top at the town centre. Go straight through r/about,past Railway Station, turn right at r/about, straight through next roundabout at swimming pool. Turn left at next roundabout sign for Edinburgh. Go through first set of pedestrians lights, turn left at second set of lights onto Mill road. Follow road to top of hill, cross at junction down the hill to the Hotel.
